Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped Fruit

Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped Fruit
Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped Fruit - TOMATO: Tomatoes are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and the seeds are high in fiber. The green parts are mildly poisonous, which is not surprising, as tomatoes are closely related to both nightshade and tobacco

The tomato was originally believed to be poisonous when introduced into Europe, and was used solely as an ornamental plant during the 16th and 17th centuries. The first traces of its use as a food date back to the first half of the 18th century

Tomatoes are now a tasty ingredient in many dishes, and are used fresh, canned, stewed or even sun-dried. An old pink variety still in demand with gardeners. This large, meaty, mild-flavored tomato has few seeds and is the perfect tomato-sandwich tomato

The 'Mortgage Lifter' tomato was developed in the early 1930's in Logan, West Virginia by a radiator repairman, M.C. "Radiator Charlie" Byles. Without any experience in breeding, he made a successful cross of four of the largest tomatoes he could find - German Johnson, Beefsteak, an Italian variety, and an English variety

Radiator Charlie sold the first seedlings of his new tomato in the 1940's for one dollar each to customers who drove up to 200 miles for his famous plants that bore tasty tomatoes averaging two and a half pounds

With these sales, Charlie managed to pay off his $6,000 mortgage in only six years, and so the tomato was named 'Mortgage Lifter'. Shipping Options: Shipping begins March 1st, weather permitting

Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped Fruit Reviews

Everything it claims to be!, June 27, 2009 - By  Flojorn (Pittsburgh, PA) This review is from: Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped FruitThese plants are growing in containers on the back porch.I planted the plants in mid-May and now have golf sized tomatoes on the plants. The neighbors are impressed with how well the plants are growing. Also, impressed that they came Amazon.com and not from a local greenhouse!***Update***The plants did NOT tolerate the containers well. The plants need to be planted in the ground. The tomatoes have a mild taste.
Keep the huge tomatoes coming!, May 19, 2011 - By  Kellae-
and are reaching for the sky. I followed my grandfathers rules, planted them sideways past the lower two sets of leaves and they have doubled in size! Between the rain, and 80 degree days these babies are thriving. I cant't wait to see the huge fruits these bear. A good large cage is mandatory with these guys, a salt shaker in the garden, and BBQ's for those one slice per burger delicious tomatoes. My friends begged me for these last year, and will be again this year. Their terrific flavor, and firm crisp texture make them one of the best slicers out there. Let them work for their water and you'll get thick stalks and a high yield. Congratulations to Hirts for carrying the most enjoyable heirlooms around!Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Lg.
