Ferry-Morse 3140 Organic Tomato Seeds, Beefsteak (600 Milligram Packet) Reviews

Started growing in April in Northeast area, May 1, 2011 - By  Ali Julia (boston, mass)   I am attaching a photo of tomato plants under the umbrella, that allowed me to get an early start on the season.Update 5/21/11:I live in the Northeast, close to New Hampshire/Massachusetts border. This morning I noticed my first green tomato! The tomato plants are about 3 feet tall and have several flower clusters.A friend of mine and I started growing tomatos on the same day, but he does not use a pop up green house.I visited his house this weekend and his tomatos are still little dwarves compared to mine! This pop-up greenhouse really works!
Died in infancy, July 2, 2011 - By  Photohombre (Colorado USA)
The soil was prepared, the containers readied, the lights placed and the seeds planted. The little sprouts appeared in May along with varieties of vegetables in several containers. And then, after about three weeks they all died.I am sure it was something in the soil and will use the rest of the seeds for next years batch & hope for a better result.I give the rating this year as the sprouts did appear and began to grow.I think their demise is due to my lack of developed horticultural skills.

Dave's Gourmet Organic Red Heirloom Pasta Sauce - 26 Ounces Reviews

The best tomato sauce I have ever had, September 17, 2008 - By  Reading Mother- , there is no sour tomato taste, everything is balanced, not too much salt or flavor enhancers or cover-ups.It's just super delicious from the first to the last bite. The fact that it is organic is a huge plus.
Not as good as I thought it would be, March 30, 2009 - By  Honest Abe (San Diego) , this one is a bit bland. I am having it now again for the third or fourth time, and this time, it tastes better after adding salt, grated cheese and hot sauce. It probably is a sauce true to italian marina as I believe I see chunks of carrots and this is what is called for in my Italian cookbook. And perhaps I have gotten too used to the strong tomato flavor in other sauces, but I'm rating it mediocre due to the general lack of flavor.

Reisenstrabe 4 Tomato Plants - German Heirloom

Reisenstrabe 4 Tomato Plants - German Heirloom
Reisenstrabe 4 Tomato Plants - German Heirloom - HEIRLOOM TOMATO: Heirloom Tomatoes are just what their name implies. They have been handed down, through generations of farmers and gardeners, from family member to family member. Many of these tomato varieties are known to have thrived since the 1800's

Unlike hybrids, they are not selectively bred for taste or appearance. They are open-pollinated, growing 'true to type' plants, like their predecessors, from seed. Heirloom Tomato Plants will add untraditional color and pleasing variety to your garden harvest

Reisenstrabe Tomato: European heirloom variety grown by Pennsylvania Dutch as early as 1856. Name translates as "giant bunches of grapes." Produces tasty fruits in clusters of 20-40 and each distinctly pointed

To say that this variety is productive is an understatement. Round 1" fruit has a distinct nipple on the blossom end. In the past this variety was used to make tomato wine. Shipping Options: Shipping begins March 1st, weather permitting

When paying enter the ship date in the "Gift Card" box or in the "Special Instruction" Box. Choose from the following shipping dates: Correct planting time for your growing zone or March 1st, April 1st, May 1st, June 1st, or Immediately (Choose Only after March 1st) Size shipped: Starter plants in a 4-pack.

Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped Fruit

Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped Fruit
Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped Fruit - TOMATO: Tomatoes are rich in vitamins and antioxidants, and the seeds are high in fiber. The green parts are mildly poisonous, which is not surprising, as tomatoes are closely related to both nightshade and tobacco

The tomato was originally believed to be poisonous when introduced into Europe, and was used solely as an ornamental plant during the 16th and 17th centuries. The first traces of its use as a food date back to the first half of the 18th century

Tomatoes are now a tasty ingredient in many dishes, and are used fresh, canned, stewed or even sun-dried. An old pink variety still in demand with gardeners. This large, meaty, mild-flavored tomato has few seeds and is the perfect tomato-sandwich tomato

The 'Mortgage Lifter' tomato was developed in the early 1930's in Logan, West Virginia by a radiator repairman, M.C. "Radiator Charlie" Byles. Without any experience in breeding, he made a successful cross of four of the largest tomatoes he could find - German Johnson, Beefsteak, an Italian variety, and an English variety

Radiator Charlie sold the first seedlings of his new tomato in the 1940's for one dollar each to customers who drove up to 200 miles for his famous plants that bore tasty tomatoes averaging two and a half pounds

With these sales, Charlie managed to pay off his $6,000 mortgage in only six years, and so the tomato was named 'Mortgage Lifter'. Shipping Options: Shipping begins March 1st, weather permitting

When paying enter the ship date in the "Gift Card" box or in the "Special Instruction" Box. Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped Fruit Reviews

Everything it claims to be!, June 27, 2009 - By  Flojorn (Pittsburgh, PA) This review is from: Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Large Well-Shaped FruitThese plants are growing in containers on the back porch.I planted the plants in mid-May and now have golf sized tomatoes on the plants. The neighbors are impressed with how well the plants are growing. Also, impressed that they came Amazon.com and not from a local greenhouse!***Update***The plants did NOT tolerate the containers well. The plants need to be planted in the ground. The tomatoes have a mild taste.
Keep the huge tomatoes coming!, May 19, 2011 - By  Kellae-
and are reaching for the sky. I followed my grandfathers rules, planted them sideways past the lower two sets of leaves and they have doubled in size! Between the rain, and 80 degree days these babies are thriving. I cant't wait to see the huge fruits these bear. A good large cage is mandatory with these guys, a salt shaker in the garden, and BBQ's for those one slice per burger delicious tomatoes. My friends begged me for these last year, and will be again this year. Their terrific flavor, and firm crisp texture make them one of the best slicers out there. Let them work for their water and you'll get thick stalks and a high yield. Congratulations to Hirts for carrying the most enjoyable heirlooms around!Mortgage Lifter Tomato 4 Plants - Lg. The Complete Guide to Growing Tomatoes: A Complete Step-by-Step Guide Including Heirloom Tomatoes (Back-To-Basics Gardening) Reviews

Tom-A-to, Tom-ah-to - it's all good info!, January 20, 2011 - By  Vicki Landes- "The Complete Guide to Growing Tomatoes" is chock-full of everything imaginable relating to tomatoes.Author Cherie Everhart begins with a history of the tomato and its gradual spread across the world. She walks the reader through a comprehensive list of the various types of tomatoes to include heirloom varieties with descriptions and recommended uses of each. For example, some tomatoes are better for using in sauces while others are better for slicing and eating fresh.Everhart also gives detailed information on how to grow tomato plants with soil, lighting, watering, fertilizing, and companion planting in mind for optimal results. She also gives specific state extension center resources to assist the reader in soil analysis and a garden log for easy recordkeeping.Whether you are a beginner or an expert gardener, "The Complete Guide to Growing Tomatoes" has something for you.I had no idea there could be so much to learn about tomatoes! While they are relatively easy to grow, I found the additional information on tomato history and all of the different varieties and uses quite fascinating.Further, I thought her recommendations on growing specific plants nearby in order to enhance the growth or taste of the tomato to be a fun way to experiment if you already know the ins and outs of basic gardening.Everhart writes with an easy style that makes learning about this debated `fruit or vegetable?' quick and fun. You'll be ready to plant before you even finish reading! "The Complete Guide to Growing Tomatoes" is the perfect read for the beginner as well as the experienced and even the large area, greenhouse, and container gardener.Easy to follow information makes starting the process extremely fast while case studies from the experts on their `tried and true' techniques can assist in avoiding unnecessary mistakes.I especially liked Everhart's inclusion of organic methods. Many people today grow their own gardens to provide healthier alternatives to chemically fertilized foods and a cheaper alternative to the expensive grocery store organic selection. Her valuable information helps the would-be gardener grow their own food while ensuring they maintain that `organic' distinction.A must read if you are even thinking about planting tomatoes!Reviewed by Vicki Landes, author of "Europe for the Senses - A Photographic Journal"
This is a "complete" guide, March 12, 2011 - By  Irene Watson (Austin, Texas)   Imagine going out into your garden in the back yard or to your container garden and picking a warm sun-ripened tomato off the vine.Yes, it can be done regardless if you have an acre of land, a small plot, or a bunch of containers;all will give you the opportunity to grow tomatoes. This book is perfect for a first-timer gardener or a novice. You will learn the difference between hybrid and heirloom tomatoes, how to select the proper site, how to start seedlings, how to plant outside, how to support the vines, what other plants companion with the tomatoes, all about pests and diseases,as well as how to care for the plants. For those that don't have garden space there is a great section on container and raised bed gardening. And, then there is the award - harvesting.I've been a long time tomato grower and have yielded wonderful crops.Cherie H. Everhart covers every aspect you need to know and she does so in lay terms. This step-by-step guide is sure to yield a bountiful and delicious crop for you and the end result will be one to savor. It's time we return to basics and nourish our bodies with wholesome homegrown foods.
